The River Train   pulled by our STEAM locomotive #142  follows the same route  journeying further along the river to Edingers  with a brief stop at the "Old Susquehanna" gem stone mine.  At the mine you may get off , visit the mine and learn how to pan for gems.  Each passenger receives a bag of mine tiling's , a brief history of the mine and use of the  sluice to prospect for their very own gem stones they can bring home!  You may also purchase tickets the day of the event for all trains although we advise that you purchase your tickets in advance. SPARTA – The Sparta Historical Society announces that Museum Director, Jack Clark, will present a slide show originally created by local historian, William Eppler.  Recently discovered in the Sparta Historical Society’s archives, this documentary includes images from the 1890s and 1960s… how the mine and railroad looked in the beginning and, then, more recently.

The lecture, with a guest speaker, will take place on Thursday, March 9th at 7 p.m. at the Sparta First Presbyterian Church located at 32 Main Street.

GSD  Winter  Meet This Saturday, March 4, in Union Greetings! After several years, the Garden State Division is returning to the The Model Railroad Club in Union, NJ, on March 4th, for it's next event. The meet will feature two clinics , awarding of prizes to Fred's Boxcar Challenge winners, and Bring 'n Brag in the morning session.   After a quick lunch on your own at one of the many local eateries, come back to the club for an operating session on their HO layout.  This is a chance to have some fun, learn about operations, and really get a feel for the club's large layout. Donuts and coffee will also be served in the morning.  Maps for the local restaurants will be available at the end of the morning session. Please join us at 9 AM at the The Model Railroad Club located at 295 Jefferson Avenue, just off of Route 22 East, behind the Home Depot.  To closely view the location on Google Maps and get directions, click on the map or the button. Time to put the tools, glue, and paint away.  It is time to bring your entry for Fred's GSD Boxcar Challenge to the Winter Meet.   All entries will be placed on display during the meet and everyone will get the opportunity to choose which ones they like most.   Prizes will be awarded to the winners in this popular vote contest. Erie Lackawanna Historical Society Store at the Clark, NJ Train Show Come out to Clark, NJ to see the ELHS store.  The ELHS will have sales tables manned by ELHS members and officers.  Lots of good EL-type items to choose from.  Stop by if you can make it.  We would love to see you. More information on the show: JCRHS hosts the largest railroadiana & model train show in New Jersey featuring some of the best know dealers of railroad items in the Northeast. Our vendors offer a wide range of railroad related products such as videos and slides, models of all gauges, timetables, books, china, clothing, paintings and prints. The show also features operating train layouts including one that the kids can actually run! There are also railroad movies and a collection of model circus train equipment. Door prizes every hour with the Grand Prize a HO scale model train set! This year's show will be held Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 9 AM until 3:30 PM at Mother Seton High School in Clark NJ.   Mother Seton is located on Valley Road at the Clark traffic circle, Exit 135 on the Garden State Parkway.
