NORFOLK, Va., Sept.
1, 2017 – The Norfolk Southern Foundation is donating $100,000 and will match
Norfolk Southern employee gifts to assist in Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts.
The Foundation,
Norfolk Southern’s charitable giving arm, will give $50,000 to the American Red
Cross and $50,000 to the Houston Food Bank. The Foundation will match employee
donations to the American Red Cross and Feeding America food banks, including
the Houston Food Bank, for relief efforts.
“Our hearts go out to
the thousands of families and individuals whose lives have been upended by the
devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey,” said Norfolk Southern CEO James A.
Squires. “We believe it’s important for corporate America to step up and
support the people of Houston and surrounding areas in this time of need. The
Red Cross and Feeding America food banks have proven track records for
providing effective help when disaster strikes. We consider ourselves fortunate
to be able to assist their efforts.”
